Nick is of Rongawhakaata, and Ngāti Ruapani descent.

He has a PhD in microbiology and is a Senior Lecturer at Auckland University’s School of Biological Sciences and Senior Scientist at Plant & Food Research.

Nick is a Māori champion/kaiāwhina at the Bio-Protection Research Centre.
